The Coastal Water Quality Monitoring Network was established in 1991 to characterize status and trends in water quality of Florida Bay and then it expanded to cover much of the South Florida region, including Biscayne Bay, Whitewater Bay, Ten Thousand Islands, and the west coast of South Florida. The project finished in 2008. It was funded by the South Florida Water Management District and managed by Dr. Joseph N. Boyer and Dr. Henry Briceņo of the Southeast Environmental Research Center, Florida International University, Miami, FL 33199.
