This program intends to
establish a network of marine
scientists at academic and governmental institutions and NGOs interested in
establishing a long-term water quality monitoring program for Caribbean
coastal ecosystems, particularly coral reef, sea grass, and mangrove
dominated areas.
CarWASSH is envisaged to
provide an early warning system for coastal water quality
degradation due to anthropogenic influences, as well as a monitoring
system for hurricane-induced ecological changes, and on longer-term
scales, climate change. CarWASSH includes an
important component of capacity building, to update and improve
the knowledge on analytical and field methods for ecosystem
monitoring
