·         Worked on restoration of the 3 coastal lagoons in Oaxaca (México) to opening their sealed mouths for augmenting the production of shrimp.

·         Collected, processed and analyzed sediment samples to obtain information about current direction, size grain and mineralogical characteristics, among others.

Environmental Consultant (2003)

Surfrider Foundation, (Rincon) Puerto Rico Chapter.

·         Created a comprehensive set of recommendations for the most effective management and protection of the natural resources of a Coral Reef Marine Reserve “Tres Palmas”.

·         Identified policies, laws, agencies and processes to assist in the protection of the marine resources.

·         Researched and compared different Management Plans from Latin America, Caribbean and United States to create the management plan for “Tres Palmas”.

·         Performed outreach and Interviewed the local community, fishermen, scientists, environmental groups, tourism and government agencies to identify the activities in the Reserve, the needs of these groups, the research gaps, in order to recommend the best management practices.

·         Coordinated different activities to resolve threats to the coral reefs including recommendations for zoning in the watershed, extensive research about the sediment effects on corals and a list of construction practices to reduce erosion and retain sediment onsite during and after construction.

·         Developed and organized an environmental educational program for the schools of Rincon, which includes an ongoing series of presentations about coral reefs, marine habitat conservation, the impact of human activities on coastal resources and the importance of marine protected areas for the sustainability of fisheries resources and tourism activities.

·         Assisted with Rincon Chapter activities, planned and advertised meetings and workshops, prepared mixed media presentations, wrote articles for local newspapers, etc.

Completed a 40-hour course of study in Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), June 2000, at Agilent Technologies-Hewlett Packard. Wilmington, Pennsylvania, USA.

 

Internship (5 months) in a shrimp larvae laboratory "Labocam" for training in techniques of larvae cultivation and laboratory management in Manglar Alto, Ecuador (1994-1995).

 

Visited for 3 to 4 days the following shrimp farms and laboratories in Ecuador, to compare their different cultivation techniques, production methods and technologies: San Pablo, Esmeraldas, Ecualab, Aqualab, Quirola group (Laqui-laye and Quimasaru), Probiomar, Larva Azul, Criesbio, Cride, Filomarino and Santa Lucia (1994-1995).

 

Internship (1 month) in a shrimp farm "Galuver" for training in industrial farming techniques of shrimp in Balao, Ecuador (1994).
