Dr. Briceņo's actual areas of research interest reach across the fields of Remote Sensing, especially in forested areas; Low-temperature aqueous Geochemistry (Tropical Weathering, Geochemical balance); and Chemostratigraphy. He has extensive experience in the geology, water and mineral resources of the Guayana Shield and has investigated the effects of land cover, topography, climate and lithology on dissolved and particulate fluxes and geochemical balances in Guayana rivers. Current projects include: monitoring of status and geochemical trends of infiltrated waters in structures and foundations of the Guri Dam Complex; analyzing and interpreting long-term data on water geochemistry from the Venezuelan Guayana rivers; using chemostratigraphic analysis to establish paleoenvironments of deposition; and soil-gas geochemistry applied to hydrocarbon exploration.
