Dr. Boyer has experience in microbial ecology and biogeochemistry of coastal oceans, estuaries, and groundwater ecosystems with expertise in nutrient cycling, ecological modeling, and statistical analysis of spatial data. Present research projects are concerned with assessing both natural and human-induced impacts on the water quality and nutrient cycling within Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Biscayne Bay, Florida Bay, Southwest Florida Shelf, and the Whitewater Bay/Ten Thousand Islands area of Everglades National Park.
